A staple in my house growing up during breakfast time was oatmeal. My parents had so many different ways to prepare oatmeal with berries, pumpkin spice, apples, and bananas.

So I wanted to elevate their recipes by creating this yummy caramelized banana oats bowl.

  • Oats
  • Milk (almond or oat milk)
  • Banana
  • Vanilla extract
  • Cloves
  • Honey or Maple Syrup
  • Coconut oil
  • Pinch of salt

Toppings

  • Chopped walnuts
  • Banana per bowl
  • Almond butter
  • Coconut flakes
  • Honey or brown sugar optional if you want more sweetness

Equipment

  • 1 Pot small or medium
  • 1 Pan Small

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Oats
  • 2 cups Milk almond, oat, or regular milk
  • ½ Banana
  • 1 ½ tsp Vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp Cloves
  • 1 tbsp Honey or Maple Syrup
  • A pinch of salt
Caramelized Banana Slices
  • ½ banana per bowl
  • 1 tsp Coconut oil
Toppings
  • Chopped walnuts
  • Almond butter
  • Coconut flakes optional
  • Honey or brown sugar optional if you want more sweetness
  • Caramelized banana slices

Instructions

  • Pour milk, pinch of salt, and oats into a small to medium pot and bring to a boil.
  • Then, reduce to a light simmer and add in the vanilla extract, cloves, and honey or maple syrup. Let cook mostly covered for 7-12 minutes. If you want it to have less liquid, continue cooking for another 2-5 minutes.
  • While it’s cooking, use a small pan and add in coconut oil on medium heat.
  • Add in the banana and sear for 3-5 minutes on each side.
  • When the oatmeal is done, add the other half and mush into the oatmeal.
  • Lastly, add some oatmeal to a bowl. Then add desired toppings: caramelized banana, chopped walnuts, almond butter, honey.
