Sweet Berry Quinoa Breakfast Oatmeal (Dairy Free / Gluten Free)

You may be thinking… hmm… quinoa goes good with chicken, goes good with veggies, but as my breakfast oatmeal? What’s this all about?! Well you gotta trust me on this!

My Sweet Quinoa Breakfast Oatmeal is filling, healthy, and super easy to make. That’s kinda the motto around here.

So here is a sweet and healthy breakfast meal for you to try tomorrow morning. Or try this on a Sunday night and prepare a whole batch for the week ahead.

Why Quinoa?

Quinoa has a lot of fiber and is actually good for your cholesterol levels and lowering your blood sugar.

It’s also incredibly fast to cook just like oatmeal which is perfect for my friends that don’t always have the most time in the morning to cook.

What Do I Need To Make This?

You will need quinoa of any color. I highly encourage you to buy pre-washed quinoa to save time.

Quinoa has a natural film layer called saponin which can make the quinoa taste bitter or soapy. So if you do buy regular quinoa, make sure you rinse thoroughly before cooking.

You will also need plant-based milk. To make this healthy and dairy free, I use (gluten free) oat milk, Oatly.

You will also need some flavors. For this I use vanilla extract and for spices I found this amazing Vanilla Spice Sugar from The Spice House. If you don’t have this, 1 tsp of cinnamon + 1 tsp of cardamom + honey will do. 😊

Ideas

How Is This Sweet Quinoa Breakfast Oatmeal Healthy?

My Sweet Quinoa Breakfast Oatmeal has super simple ingredients and they’re all natural. I also have a gluten sensitivity so I tend to choose gluten-free things.

  • Quinoa is naturally gluten-free (which is funny marketing that they put “gluten-free” on the label. I only bought this brand because it was pre-washed.)
  • Our only sweetener is honey (I love to use local honey)
  • Our only toppings are fruits, nuts, and seeds
How I ate this:

I topped my sweet berry quinoa breakfast with raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries. I also put a splash of oat milk in the bowl to make it a hot cereal situation and it was AMAZING!

I also brought some dairy free creamer in my coffee cup. Then, when I got to work, I made an espresso with my creamer already in the cup. It was so lovely.
